The objectives of this course were:

  1. To develop a deep understanding of the complex conceptual issues in autism, and the key theories, principles and issues in the field
  2. To understand the current trends and methodologies in working with people with autism
  3. To understand and develop skills in a variety of strategies for teaching students with autism
  4. To learn how to develop collaborative partnerships with individuals on the spectrum, their parents, colleagues and other agencies
  5. To critically evaluate the use of assistive technology and current research in the field
  6. To conduct professional enquiries and use research evidence to generate professional knowledge and enhance understanding and practice
  7. Creating awareness to spark the interest of researchers/clinicians/parents of child with autism as a diagnosis

The University of Edinburgh’s Senior research fellow Dr Sue Fletcher-Watson was the chief trainer and speaker.
